My Journey
I was born in 1982 in the coastal city of Split, where the rhythm of life is dictated by the tides and the intensity of the sun. Growing up, my world was defined by the sharp contrast between the deep blue of the Adriatic and the blinding white limestone of the Dalmatian coast. My father was a stone carver, and from him, I learned my first and most important lesson: that beauty is already present in the material; the artist’s job is simply to help it emerge.
My formal training began at the School of Fine Arts in Split, followed by five transformative years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. While the Academy gave me the technical tools—mastering the weight of oils and the precision of anatomy—I often felt a pull back toward the coast. I spent my summers traveling through the small fishing villages of Hvar and Brač, filling sketchbooks with the faces of locals and the way the morning light hit the olive groves.
In my late twenties, I moved to Florence, Italy, for a short residency. Being surrounded by the Renaissance masters was humbling, but it was there that I realized my true inspiration wasn’t in the grand cathedrals—it was in the simple, vibrant energy of Mediterranean life. I decided then that I didn’t want to paint the “darkness” of the world. I wanted to capture the optimism I saw in the people of my homeland.
Today, I live and work in a small studio overlooking the sea, just a short drive from where I grew up. My daily routine is simple: a cup of strong coffee, a walk by the water to observe the shifting colors, and then hours at the easel.
My work has been featured in several regional galleries and private collections across Europe, but my greatest satisfaction remains the same as when I started: that moment when a brushstroke perfectly captures the warmth of a Dalmatian summer. I am not looking to reinvent the world; I am simply trying to honor the light that makes it visible.
