My name is Ante Kurevic, and I believe that every canvas is a conversation between what we see and what we feel.

Born and raised along the rugged coastline of Dalmatia, Croatia, my earliest memories are stained with the deep blues of the Adriatic and the stark, blinding white of island limestone. These colors—and the silent stories they tell—have become the foundation of my life’s work.

After refining my technique at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, I spent several years traveling across Europe, finding inspiration in the industrial shadows of Berlin and the chaotic energy of Madrid. However, I always find myself returning to my roots. My art is an exploration of “Dišpet”—that uniquely Croatian spirit of defiance and persistence.

My Philosophy

I don’t paint to replicate reality; I paint to capture the rhythm of it. Whether I am working with heavy oils or delicate charcoal, my goal is to strip away the noise of the modern world until only the raw emotion remains. My work often oscillates between abstract landscapes and intimate portraiture, focusing on the interplay of light, solitude, and the passage of time.

Journey & Recognition

Over the past decade, my pieces have found homes in private collections from Split to New York. I have been fortunate enough to showcase my “Salt and Stone” series in solo exhibitions across Europe, though I still feel most at home in my quiet studio, surrounded by the scent of turpentine and the echo of the sea.

To me, art is not a final destination—it is a constant state of becoming. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
