When people ask me why I choose to paint the way I do, I often tell them that I don’t just paint what I see; I paint what remains in my heart after the sun goes down. My work is a dedicated practice in Mediterranean Lyrical Abstraction a bridge between the ancient, sturdy walls of my home and the fluid, ever-changing energy of the Adriatic Sea.
My Phılosophy: Beyond the Vısıble
I love working in this specific style because it allows me to capture the vibration of a place rather than just its silhouette. In my studio, a bell tower is never just a stack of limestone; it is the echo of the morning bells, the centuries of prayers held within its mortar, and the way it slices through the thick, golden heat of a Croatian July. By moving toward abstraction, I am able to strip away the distractions of the modern world and focus entirely on the Rhythm of Heritage—the pulse of life that has existed here for generations.
The Physıcal Act: Sculptıng with Color
My process is highly physical and deeply tactile. I rarely find satisfaction in the thin, delicate layers of traditional brushes. Instead, I prefer to work with palette knives and heavy impasto techniques. I want the paint to stand off the canvas, creating a three-dimensional landscape that you can almost feel with your fingertips.

I treat the paint like the very stone I am depicting—I layer it, I scrape it back, and I build it up until the canvas has its own “topography.” This creates a living surface where the shadows in your room will dance across the ridges of the paint, meaning the artwork evolves from the soft light of dawn to the deep shadows of the evening. To me, a painting should never be static; it should breathe.
The Alchemy of Gold and Lıght
A signature element you will find across my portfolio is the integration of raised gold relief and delicate gold leaf. This is not merely decorative; it is a sacred dialogue with my ancestors.
- The Tradition: It pays homage to the ancient icons and the gilded history of the Mediterranean.
- The Light: More importantly, gold is the only medium that can truly mimic the “divine” intensity of our sun. When I place gold on a sapphire sea or a terracotta roof, I am capturing that split second where the world seems to set itself on fire with beauty. It is my way of giving the viewer a permanent piece of that Adriatic glow to keep in their own home.
The Contrast of the Soul
My palette is built on the tension between Earth and Spirit. I am obsessed with the way the blinding, sun-bleached whites of our coastal citadels stand against the infinite, mysterious depths of the sea. I use highly saturated ochres, deep reds, and vibrant turquoises to create a visual “heartbeat” on the canvas. Every stroke is an act of optimism. My goal is to ensure that when you stand before one of my works, you don’t just see a town or a tower—you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and the salt of the sea in the air.
